Some things to keep you busy before June comes from A Working Writer’s Daily Calendar 2011. Almost done on the 2012 edition—so this is your last chance to send us suggestions.

June 1: Fourteenth Annual Poetry Contest
Prize: $1,500 + publication in Boston Review in the Nov./Dec. 2011 issue.
Eligibility: Any author writing in English is eligible, unless he or she is a current student, former student, or close personal friend of the judge.
Manuscripts: Up to 5 unpublished poems, max. 10 pages. Mailed manuscripts must be submitted in duplicate, with a cover note listing the author’s name, address, email and phone number. No cover note is necessary for online submission. Names should not be on the poems themselves.
Fee: $20 ($30 for international submissions) payable to Boston Review.

June 15: Guy Owen Prize
Prize: $1,000 + publication in Southern Poetry Review.
Manuscript: 3–5 unpublished poems (10 pages max.) plus an SASE for reply only. Include contact information on cover sheet only. No electronic submissions. All entries considered for publication.
Fee: $15 by check or money order (includes one-year subscription to journal).

June 30: Omnidawn First/Second Book Poetry Contest
Prize: $3,000 + publication; 100 complimentary copies of your book; marketing.
Eligibility: Friends, colleagues, and students of the judge are ineligible. Self-published books and translations are ineligible.
Manuscript: (SS) Suggested length 40–70 pages. 2 cover pages: one with title only; second with title, name, and contact information. Multiple submissions ok. Electronic and postal submissions accepted. Entrants who send SASE receive copy of choice of any Omnidawn book. Please see website for full details.
Fee: $25

June 30: Bastiat Prize for Journalism
Prize: $10,000; $4,000; $1,000
Eligibility: Open to writers everywhere whose published articles eloquently and wittily explain, promote, and defend the principles and institutions of the free society.
Manuscript: Up to 3 articles (4,500 words max) published between 1 July 2010 and 30 June 2011. Self-published articles and articles published in blogs not accepted. (For these, see their Online Journalism award.) Enter online or by email.
No Fee.

June 30: The Aeon Award
Prize: €1,000, Second Prize €200 Third Prize €100 + publication in Albedo One for the top three stories as judged by Ian Watson, Anne McCaffrey, Mike Resnick and Sam Millar.
Contest opens 1st January and has four rounds with the following deadlines: March 31st, June 30th, September 30th, and November 30th. Each round begins immediately after the end of the previous round (i.e. you may submit at any time from 1st January to 30th November).
Eligibility: Unpublished, no simultaneous submissions.
Manuscript: Speculative fiction up to 8,000 words.
Fee: €7 (7 euros—use Paypal on site)
