May 7: International Poetry Competition
Prize: $1,000 + publication for 20 entrants.
Manuscript: Poems must be your original creative work, not published in a national print publication. (Online or strictly local publication is permitted, as long as you hold the copyright.)
Eligibility: Previous winners, associates, friends, or students of the judge are ineligible.

May 15: New Ohio Review Prize in Fiction and Poetry
Prize: $2,000 per genre + publication
Manuscript: (SS) Open to any genre. Translations welcome if permission has been granted. Please submit a cover page with name and contact information. No name should on manuscript. Prose: 25 pages double-spaced, max. Poetry: four poems.
Fee: $20 per entry (includes one-year subscription)

May 15: Academy of American Poets
The Academy offers several awards including the James Laughlin Award (due May 15) of $5,000 for an author’s second book of poetry and the Walt Whitman Award (due Nov. 15) of $5,000 and a one-month residency for first book of poetry.

May 18: New Letters: Awards for Writers
Prize: $1,500 each for short fiction, poetry and for essays.
Manuscript: Story or essay up to 8,000 words or a group of 3-6 poems. All entries considered for publication. 2 cover sheets: one with name, contact information, category, and title(s); one with category and title only. Manuscripts will be recycled.
