Amtrak question

OK, so is there an arm of Amtrak (the Amtrak Foundation?) or Rail Canada which gives grants to writers (or, er, indie presses) who want to, just to pick a wild example out the air (or, more appropriately if less of an actual fit, off the land), for instance take the train across the USA, up to Vancouver, and then across to Calgary. (Or at least to Edmonton, since Calgary doesn’t seem to have a train connection.)

It would be great publicity for the train companies….

    Oh, if only. If only.

The only way to travel, you ask me.

If you were Canadian and if you were nominated for an award, then the Canada Council could possibly help you (Matthew Hughes got to WFC in Saratoga that very way).

The train system here is Via Rail. If you do decide to do such a trip and end up going to Edmonton, let me know in advance and if you like I can redirect myself and come through Edmonton to pick you up and drive you down to Calgary. It wouldn’t add that much to the trip, and would be a chance to see some family.

Yet another reason to move north. They do keep adding up!

And when you’re done with that trip, come down to Australia for the Writers Train we’re planning across the outback! 🙂 Basically piling a lot of writers onto a train and stopping at whichever little rural town looks interesting along the way for a bit of reading, performing, drinking and chattin’ with the locals.

Hey, any chance you guys interested in taking the Canada train?!

Writers Train sounds like amazing fun — wouldn’t happen to be in February 09….?

    2nd article on this page:

The train ended where I currently live. It would be a fun thing, I think.

Hey Derryl, fantastic. The SF version would obviously be a shuttle ride with SF writers; or a zeppelin ride with David Moles.
